This apprenticeship provides tailored learning for leaders in either residential childcare or community-based roles. Offering two distinct pathways—Manager in Children’s Residential Care and Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community—this apprenticeship equips professionals with the advanced skills, knowledge, and behaviors (KSBs) needed to deliver outstanding leadership in their respective fields.

Pathway 1: Manager in Children’s Residential Care – Ideal for professionals working in residential childcare settings.
Pathway 2: Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community – Designed for individuals in roles within early years, youth services, youth justice, family support, or special educational needs.
This Level 5 apprenticeship prepares managers to lead with confidence, compassion, and a deep understanding of the complexities involved in supporting children, young people, and families. Through tailored pathways, apprentices will gain the specific expertise required to thrive in their unique roles.
Pathway 1: Manager in Children’s Residential Care
Designed for professionals working in residential childcare settings, this pathway equips managers with the skills to lead teams in providing safe, nurturing, and effective care environments. Apprentices will develop a comprehensive understanding of residential childcare regulations, therapeutic approaches, and team leadership strategies to ensure the highest standards of care.
Pathway 2: Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community
For professionals in early years, youth services, youth justice, family support, or special educational needs, this pathway focuses on leadership within diverse and often complex community environments. Apprentices will learn how to manage multi-agency collaboration, support vulnerable families, and drive positive change through strategic, community-focused interventions.
Both pathways emphasize the development of leadership and management skills, safeguarding expertise, and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children, young people, and families.
As part of this apprenticeship standards you will cover a number of knowledge, skills and behaviour outcomes specific to your chosen pathway. In addition you will complete the following mandatory qualification based on your chosen pathway.
Pathway 1: Manager in Children’s Residential Care
Qualification: TQUK Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (RQF)
Pathway 2: Children, Young People and Families Manager within the Community
Qualification: TQUK Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Children, Young People & Families in the Community (RQF)

We’ll guide you through the eligibility requirements and provide an initial assessment to determine the learner’s starting level. From there, we’ll create a tailored learning plan and schedule that works best for you.
With flexible delivery options—online, in-person, or blended—we ensure the enrolment process is smooth and focused on achieving success.
If you don't already hold a Maths or English qualification equivalent to a GCSE pass you may undertake Functional Skills at Level 2. These are optional and as part of the enrolment process you will be given a choice to opt-in or opt-out of undertaking them.
Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English are equivalent to a GCSE pass (grade 4-9) and are essential for career progression, apprenticeships, and further education. Our individually tailored program, with dedicated functional skills tutors, supports individuals in gaining confidence and competence in these vital areas, empowering them to reach their full potential.
