Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard (EYP)
The Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard is a government-funded apprenticeship programme designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the early years sector as a practitioner. Apprentices will learn how to support children’s development and well-being, communication and teamwork, and how to implement an inclusive approach in their practice.
This apprenticeship is suitable for those who wish to work with children aged 0-5 years in a variety of early years settings such as nurseries, pre-schools and reception classes.
The Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard is a combination of on-the-job training and off-the-job training. The on-the-job training takes place in a real-life work environment, such as a nursery or preschool, where apprentices will have the opportunity to learn from experienced practitioners. They will be mentored by a designated supervisor who will provide guidance and support throughout the apprenticeship. The on-the-job training will focus on the practical skills and knowledge required to work in the early years sector, and will include:
- Supporting children’s development and well-being
- Communication and teamwork
- Implementing an inclusive approach in practice
- Observing and recording children’s progress
- Planning activities that support children’s learning and development
- Implementing policies and procedures related to children’s welfare and development
In addition to on-the-job training, apprentices will also receive off-the-job training. The off-the-job training will focus on the theoretical aspects of working in the early years sector and will include:
- Child development
- The role of play in children’s learning
- How to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children
- The legal and regulatory framework for working in the early years sector
How it works?
During the apprenticeship, apprentices will develop the knowledge and skills required to provide high-quality care and education for young children. They will learn how to support children’s development and well-being, and how to implement an inclusive approach in their practice. This will include understanding child development, observing and recording children’s progress, planning activities that support children’s learning and development and how to implement policies and procedures related to children’s welfare and development.
Apprentices will also learn about communication and teamwork, including how to build positive relationships with children, parents and colleagues. They will also learn about the importance of play, and how to provide a safe and stimulating environment for children to learn and develop in.
Overall, the Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about working with young children and want to develop the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care and education. It will provide them with the practical experience and qualifications needed to start a rewarding career in the early years sector.
Once completed, you will be able to progress onto the Early Years Educator Level 3 Apprenticeship.
I felt very supported by my assessor and my manager. They were able to help me when I was struggling and the manager was able to give me time to let my assessor come and observe me and complete my exams.
