How does it work?

Throughout the apprenticeship, individuals will learn how to support the teacher in planning and delivering lessons, how to work with children with different abilities and how to work with children with special education needs. They will also learn how to monitor the progress of children, how to provide feedback to the teacher and how to use this information to support the children’s learning.

The apprenticeship will also provide individuals with the opportunity to develop their communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be working with a diverse group of people, including children, teachers and parents.

The duration of the Teaching Assistant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard typically lasts between 12-18 months. This is the standard duration of an apprenticeship as set by the government. However, the exact length of the apprenticeship may vary depending on the specific program and the needs of the employer. Some apprenticeships may take longer than 18 months to complete, while others may be completed in less time.

  3. Curriculum planning: Understanding how to support the teacher in planning and delivering lessons, and how to adapt these lessons to meet the needs of children with different abilities.
  4. Special educational needs: Understanding how to support children with special educational needs, and how to work with other professionals to meet the needs of these children.
  5. Assessment and monitoring: Learning how to monitor the progress of children, how to provide feedback to the teacher, and how to use this information to support the children’s learning.
  6. Communication and interpersonal skills: Developing effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with children, teachers and parents.
